One of the primary goals of Asking for Eyes is to increase public awareness and appreciation of the value and importance of diversity in our world. The Sana Art Foundation (Edward M. Smith Family Art Foundation) has worked hard to provide the local community with educational programs related to the indigenous cultures of Africa, the Pacific Islands and the Americas . The Asking for Eyes exhibition held at The University Gallery at San Diego State University provided volunteer docent tours of the exhibition to elementary school children in the San Diego community. Immediately following the educational tours related art projects were offered to provide hands on experience, reinforcing the material presented.
