Among the Zulu people, the head is considered sacred and a married woman, especially in rural areas, will never appear in public without some type of head covering, whether it be a scarf, a beret, a hat, or the traditional headdress. The style of a Zulu woman’s headdress, called an inhloko or isicholo, is usually determined to a degree by the culture to which she belongs. |
